Prince Albert and Karoo
The Karoo is said to hold the great silence that our souls long for. Many of our guests have commented that this is surely true! Often, the journey here is part of the experience… The road trip away from the lights and hammering activity of city life, is part of the nurturing visit to the Great Karoo.
Surrounded by this vast and arid landscape, lies the quirky town of Prince Albert. The town has a small local population and thrives as a tourist destination. The village has many authentic Cape Dutch, Karoo and Victorian buildings, thirteen of which are National Monuments. The town has several olive farms, export fruit farms and sheep farms. It also serves an export mohair trade. Each year the village celebrates the well-known Olive Festival during March. The delight of the town however is its laid back restaurants and coffee shops, where guests are served the hearty and healthy food of the Great Karoo.
